PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING IN HIGHGATE, NORTH LONDON AND ONLINE
Hello, I'm Laura.
I am a BACP Accredited professional psychotherapist with over 10 years of experience in the field of counselling and psychotherapy. I offer face-to-face sessions at my consulting room in Highgate, North London, adhering to all Covid protocols in order to keep you safe. I also offer sessions via Zoom online.
You may be feeling anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed. Perhaps you are experiencing relationship difficulties, or have endured a loss or trauma, whether recently or in the past. Maybe you are unsure of why you feel like you do and wish to explore this further.
People come to talk with a psychotherapist for a wide variety of reasons.
I work with people who wish to make sense of their current difficulties in order to move forward into richer, more fulfilling lives. I have a particular interest in working with people who are experiencing difficulties within their personal relationships and wish to discuss this one-on-one.
ABOUT THERAPY
HOW I WORK
I work in a psychodynamic and relational way with my work being influenced by C. G. Jung and his views on the human psyche. From this perspective, you are viewed as a unique person containing inherent potential for change.
My approach is empathic and collaborative.
Symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, are viewed as evidence the psyche is experiencing distress and unbalance. The aim of psychotherapy is to shed light on unconscious patterns which influence our lives and relationships outside of current awareness. Going to the source of difficulties in this way helps to promote long-lasting integration and change.
Therapy is a creative process that takes place between the two of us.
I have experience working clinically with a wide range of issues, including:
Anxiety and panic
Depression
Stress, burnout and feelings of being overwhelmed
Relationship breakdown and difficulties
Trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD – including childhood trauma (neglect, physical and/or sexual abuse)
Anger and other intense emotions
Low self-confidence and self-esteem
Lack of meaning or purpose in life
Shame and guilt
Grief and loss
Eating disorders
Chronic illness
Divorce and separation
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Personality disorders
Substance misuse and addictions
Sexuality issues
“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
C. G. Jung
WHAT I OFFER
I offer adult one-on-one psychodynamic psychotherapy at a frequency of once or twice per week on an open-ended or short-term basis. My practice is diverse and welcoming of people of all ethnicities, gender identities and sexual identities.
Before embarking upon therapy, I would ask that you consider your reasons for doing so. Shorter term therapy can often be helpful when focusing on a particular concern, whilst commitment to a longer term process usually allows for deeper insight into difficulties. In either case, it is essential that you are able to attend sessions a minimum of once per week on the same day and time which is mutually agreed upon at the beginning of our work together.
I enjoy working with people who wish to explore their potential, in a safe and confidential space, free from the constraints of traditional diagnostic labels. Nonetheless, if you have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder, I have the experience to work with this too.
